Elton John and Bernie Taupin to be honored with 2024 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by Library of Congress.
A tribute concert for the duo will air on Public Broadcasting Service stations across the US on 8 April 2024.
The legendary songwriting partners met in 1967 and went on to create enduring hits like Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Candle in the Wind, and Crocodile Rock.
Over 300 million records sold worldwide. Over 70 Top 40 hits. 4,000+ concerts in 80 countries. Candle in the Wind 1997 is the biggest selling physical single ever.
With his 2022 Emmy win, Elton John achieved coveted EGOT status for winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony over his career.
While Elton loves the spotlight, Bernie has preferred to stay out of it, once saying: "I don’t refer to myself as a songwriter, I’m just a guy who writes stories."
John on honor: "I've been writing with Bernie for 56 years & we never thought we'd be recognized like this. It’s an incredible honor."
