Mercedes Recalls G-Class SUVs for Flammable Refrigerant

By: Mobin

Mercedes-Benz USA has issued a safety recall for certain G 550 and G 63 SUVs due to a potential fire risk associated with the refrigerant used.

Recall Notice

The recall affects a small number of 2022 and 2023 model year G 550 and G 63 SUVs assembled between June 2022 and April 2023.

Models

Mercedes discovered that some G-Class SUVs were incorrectly filled with a flammable refrigerant instead of the intended R134a refrigerant.

Flammable

The issue stems from a data mismatch at the Magna Steyr assembly plant in Austria, where the G-Class SUVs are built for Mercedes.

Assembly Issue

To rectify the issue, Mercedes will replace the flammable refrigerant with the approved R134a refrigerant in affected vehicles, free of charge.

Remedy Action

Mercedes is taking proactive measures to address the potential safety risk associated with the flammable refrigerant.

Safety

Affected G-Class owners will be notified by Mercedes via first-class mail by April 30, 2024, to schedule the necessary repair at authorized dealerships.
